My shoddy journalism
Aaron Stockham, Grinnell Class of '01, wrote a movie review column for two years with Courtney Hougham '00 in the Grinnell College student paper, the Scarlet and Black. They would review the movies that were playing that weekend on campus. If they hadn't seen the movie, they'd say what they knew to give the reader a slightly-more informed opinion. (You see, Grinnell is small enough that there was no mechanism set up for the reviewers to always get to see the movies before they were shown) Anyhow, after Courtney graduated, I asked Stockham if he wanted a new partner, since I know a lot of random crap about movies. So what follows are links to every review we wrote in the 2000-2001 school year (except the first one, which kind of sucked anyway), and a couple of things I wrote on my own.

I had heard some complaints and off-hand remarks about our column, so I sought to clarify what exactly we were doing in the paper: Rebuttal

Also in this issue I wrote a review of Alfred Hitchcock's Rope.
And still more, I wrote an investigative piece about A very weird piece of Grinnell lore. I myself had just been targeted (in November 2000) by the Duclod letters, and wanted to get the word out. "Duclods die twice"

This week Aaron was inexplicably absent (it turns out he was playing baseball or at an interview or something), so the column had a guest commentator, seen here in the photo that ran with the byline that week.

Cast Away and Quills
Stockham let me off the hook this week, partially because I hadn't seen either film, partially because I had probably relaized that I had two weeks to write my Advanced Physics Lab notebook and formal writeups.
